Emmit was born in 1879 in Albany,Athens,OH.1 Emmit's father was Jackson Wiley and his mother was Jemima Cassels. His paternal grandfather is *Wiley; his maternal grandparents were Thomas James Cassels and Frances Woodson. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Fredrick, Franklin, Heattie, Halley Magnolia, Cara, Geneva Beatrice and Kitty. He is the second youngest of the nine children.-
