Llywelyn ap Iorweth, known as The Great, was born in 1173 in Aberffraw Castle,Angelsey,Caernarvonshire,Wales.  The Great's father was Iorweth(Iorworth) ap Owain and his mother is Margred verch Madog.  His paternal grandparents were Owain ap Gruffydd and Gwladys verch Llywarch; his maternal grandparents are Madog ap Maredydd and Susanna verch Gruffydd.  He was an only child.  He died  due to stroke at the age of 67 on April 11th, 1240 in Aberconwy,Arllechwedd Isaf,Caernarvonshire,Wales.  He was buried in Aberconwy Abbey,Wales.


The Great's first family with Tangwysl Goch (verch Rhos?)

They had a son and three daughters, named Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, Gwladys Ddu verch Llywelyn, Helen verch Llywelyn and Margred verch Llywelyn.


The Great's second family with Princess of England Joan Plantagenet

They had a son and a daughter, named Davydd ap Llywelyn and Angharad verch Llywelyn.
