Earl of Devon Hugh *Courtenay

Hugh was born on September 14th, 1273 in Okehampton,Devonshire,England.¹ Hugh's father was 3rd Baron of Okehampton, Sir Hugh Courtenay and his mother was Eleanor Despenser. His paternal grandparents were 2nd Baron of Okehampton, Sir John Courtenay and Isabel de Vere; his maternal grandparents were Sir Knight Hugh Despenser and Countess of Norfolk Aliva Bassett. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, John, Eleanor, Margaret, Avelina, Isabella and Egeline. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 67 on December 23rd, 1340.¹
