Elijah was born on April 11th, 1754 in Baltimore, Anne Arundel Co, Maryland.1 Elijah's father was Benjamin Shipley and his mother was Catherine Hawk. His paternal grandfather was Richard Shipley , Jr and his paternal grandmother is Keturah H Barnes. He had four brothers named Richard, Conrad, Thomas and Samuel. He was the oldest of the five children. He had three half-brothers named Nathan, James and John. He died at the age of 67 on May 13th, 1821 in Sullivan Co, Tennessee.
