Robert was born about 1044 in Graville-Sainte-Honorine,Seine-Inferieure,Normandy.  Robert's father was Durand Malet.  His paternal grandfather was Robert Malet Sire de Graville and his paternal grandmother is Unknown England. He had a brother named William.  He was the older of the two children.  He died in 1106 in Battle of Tinchebrai.
