Johanna was born in 1225 in Swanscombe, Kent, England.  Johanna's father was Warin II de Munchesni and her mother was Joane (Johanna) Marshal.  Her paternal grandparents were William de Munchesni and Aveline de Clare; her maternal grandparents were William the Protector Marshal and Isabel Fitz Richard Strongbow de Clare. She had two brothers named William and John.  She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother named William.  She died before September 20th, 1307.

‌Johanna and William were married in a religious ceremony on August 13th, 1247.  They had three sons and four daughters, named John, William le Jeune, Aymer, Agnes, Joan, Margaret and Isabel.
