Avice was born before 1071 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England.  Avice's father was Roger the Poitevin de Montgomery and her mother was Almodis de la Haute Marche.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger II de Montgomery and Mabel Talvas de Alencon-Belleme; her maternal grandfather was Bernard I de la Marche and her maternal grandmother is Amelia de Montignac de Aulnay. She had a sister named Pancia.  She was the older of the two children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William IV of, Raymond IV of, Hugh VI le Diable, Raymond III Towhead, Almode of, Inez Berengar, Sanca Berengar and Stephanie (Etiennette).  She died after 1114 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England.

‌Avice and William the Younger were married in a religious ceremony in 1112 in La Marche, Normandy, France.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Robert, Henry and Margaret.
