His paternal grandparents were William Tryon and UNKNOWN Rebecca; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Steele and Mary Boosey. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, Abel, Zybah, Sarah, Elizabeth and Mabel. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Abial, Rowland, William and Rachel.
