Geraldine Ann was born on May 29th, 1928 in Arnegard, McKenzie County, North Dakota. Geraldine Ann's father was Martin Sever Stenehjem and her mother was Emma Sofia Bjornstad. Her paternal grandparents were Andreas Amundson Stenehjem and Gunvar Trehus; her maternal grandparents were Edward Nelson Bjornstad and Anna Nyborg. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Martin Edward, Jerome Charles, Gerald Alexander, Gwendolyn Avis and Dorothy Eloise. She is the youngest of the six children.-
