H. Martin Shafer 
H. Martin was born in April 1881 in Roane County, West Virginia. H. Martin's father was Samuel L. Shaver and his mother was Sarah Jane Kiser. His paternal grandparents were John David Shaver and Nancy Tanner; his maternal grandparents were Martin Kiser and Mary Ferrell. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Isiah Elias, Essaias, Ulysses Samuel, Ezekial, Isaiah W., Paul, Pharoah E., Sarah Catherine Jane, Viola Ollie and Cellia J.. He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 69 in 1950.-
