Phelbert Herndon was born on January 12th, 1905.1 Phelbert Herndon's father was Andrew Jackson Tutor and his mother was Martha Ann Spence. His paternal grandparents were Marshall Andrew Tutor and Laura Jane Cotton; his maternal grandfather is Elisha A. Spence. He had a brother and a sister, named Waylon J. and Ada E.. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 83 on February 5th, 1988 in Raleigh, Wake Co., North Carolina. He was buried in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, Wake Co., North Carolina.1 1 General Notes
