John Whitesell was born in 1833 in Sewickley Twp., Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.1 John Whitesell's father was John Means and his mother was Susannah Whitesell. His paternal grandparents were Adam Means and Margaret Hutchinson; his maternal grandparents are Jacob Weitzel and Catherine Markley. He had five brothers and a sister, named Samuel Wiley, Courtney W., Jacob Whitesell, Joseph Markle, Lithgow and Susan. He is the youngest of the seven children.General Notes
