John Means 
John was born in 1784 in Paxtang Twp, (or Allegheny Co., ) Pennsylvania.1 John's father was Adam Means and his mother was Margaret Hutchinson. His paternal grandfather was John Means and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Clark. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Ralph Benjamin, Clark, Robert, Samuel, Eleanor and Margaret. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 88 in 1872 in Sewickley Twp., Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.1 General Notes

Spent most of his entire life in Sewickley Twp., Allegheny, Co., PA w
he re he owned a farm of 106 acres which was about 3 or 4 miles back fr
om Sem oure, PA. He sold this property for a sum of $2200.00, since whi
ch time t he value in that neighborhood has increased enormously. John w
as a farm er his entire life. The majority of the members of the Means fa
mily belo ng to the Presbyterian Church, although originally the family w
as Reform ed Presbyterian. The 1870 census shows John as having $33
00 in real prope rty, and %500.00 in personal property.
