James Alfred Keahey 
James Alfred was born in 1836 in Alabama.1 James Alfred's father was George Burder Keahey and his mother was Margaret Keahey. His paternal grandparents were James Keahey and Mary Jane Jackson; his maternal grandfather was George Keahey and his maternal grandmother is Sarah McFarland. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John Flavil, George Jackson, Samuel Newell, Martin Elijah, William Samples, Mary, Sarah Jane and Margaret Ann. He died at the age of 29 in 1865 in Dale Co., Alabama.1 General Notes

Was severly wonded on 01/02/1865. The defeated army was pouring sou
th fr om Tennessee across Bainbridge Ferry into Alabama; many of the wound
ed fe ll out by the wayside to ill to continue. James Alfred Keahey and t
wo oth er wounded soldiers were found by Mr. W. M. Davidson, and carri
ed to his f armhouse where he cared for them until they died. The three lo
nely grav es are situated near an old walnut tree beyond the Davidson orch
ard.
