Melvina was born on June 29th, 1826 in Green Co., Kentucky.1 Melvina's father was Abel Elkin and her mother was Mary Polly Skaggs. Her paternal grandparents are Nathaniel Elkin and Rachel Elizabeth Hart; her maternal grandparents were Charles Skaggs and Lucinda Thompson. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William Melton, James, Abel,Jr., Rachel, Nancy, Betty, Polly and Diadema. She was the youngest of the nine children. She died at the age of 80 on September 12th, 1906 in Green Co., Kentucky.1 General Notes
