Robert Letcher was born on February 2nd, 1887 in Floyd Co., Virginia.1 Robert Letcher's father was John Ellis Basham and his mother was Ellen Richards. His paternal grandparents were Hillory H. Basham and Sarah Ridinger; his maternal grandparents are John Richards and Martha Harris. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Nathan H., Brainard Hayden, George Kyle, Archie Leonard, John Taswell, Doc Roscoe (Peach), Harless, William Hubert, Carrrie, Leona Belle, Florence Elyna, Laura and Allie S..
