Henry Baskam Basham 
Henry Baskam was born on June 15th, 1852 in Fayetteville, Washington Co., Ark.1 Henry Baskam's father was Pleasant (Rev) Basham and his mother was Matilda Miller. His paternal grandparents were John C. Basham and Parthena Unknown. He had six brothers and three sisters, named John M., Greene Berry, Leroy J. (Tony), Fountain Fletcher, William Pleasant, Charles W., Female Child, Cinthia J and Sarah Ann B.. He was the third youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 73 on January 22nd, 1926 in Manteca, San Joaquin Co., Cal.1 General Notes

In 1860 Henry B Basham lived with his parents in Cedar Creek Arkansa
s. T here were twelve brothers and sisters in the total family. At a
ge 14 year s, he and his brother Bert rode horseback in 1866 with a cover
ed wagon tra in to California. On arrival in Sacramento, they found th
at most of the e asy gold was gone, but someone had just discovered so
me on Scott Riv er in Siskiyou County so they went there. Gold was n
ot as plentiful as ad vertised, so Henry (still 14 years old) sent to S
an Francisco for barber s upplies and opened the first barber shop in Sisk
iyou County at Fort Jone s.
In April of 1880 he married Anna Frances Hinckley of Etna at t
he ho me of her aunt and uncle, James A and Hannah (Hinckley) Diggles of A
etn a. They had one son, John Alden, and when he was ready to start hi
gh scho ol, Henry sold his barber shop and moved his family to Dunsmui
r. Four yea rs later (about 1898) John Alden attended one year at San Jo
se State, pass ed the state pharmacy exam, and went to work at Marysvill
e. Henry and An na moved to Oakland about 1906. He was a professional bar
ber until 192 0. He worked as a real estate salesman through 1924. He mo
ved to Mante ca California in 1925.
