President Of Kirby Flowers Dies At Age 77
John W. KIRBY Sr., 77, of Portsmouth, died today at Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Portsmouth, he was president of Kirby's Flowers Inc., where he was employed for 60 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the medical corps, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Portsmouth Elks Lodge.
Survivng are his wife, Violet HAFLEY KIRBY; a son, John W. KIRBY Jr. of Portsmouth; two brothers, Charles A. KIRBY and Richard W. KIRBY, both of Portsmouth; a sister, Gertrude KIRBY MCBRIDE of Portsmouth; a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. William MAROON officiating, and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Daehler Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, where recitation of the rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.
