George Cornelius FREDERICK
The West End loses another of its best known and highly respected citizens in the death of George Cornelius FREDERICK, aged 64 years, who answered the final summons at his home, 339 Fourth street, Friday morning at two o'clock.
Death was due to paralysis, Mr. FREDERICK suffering his second stroke early Thursday morning after having been troubled for a week with a heavy cold. He was first stricken with paralysis seven years ago but somewhat recovered from its effects.
Born in the old First Ward Mr. FREDERICK remained a life long resident. He was a son of the late Isador and Barbara FREDERICK, being one of twelve children born to them. At an early age he took employment in the old M & C(?) (now the B. & O.) railroad yards. Next he worked at the Eberhardt stove foundry, then for twenty-three successive years worked on a bar mill furnace of the Burgess rolling mill. He later worked as a freight hustler at the B. & O. depot, then as night watchman at Moore's foundry and during the Searcy and Frick administrations was employed as a fireman at the city water works. He was a staunch Democrat all his life. He was married 38 years ago to Anna Frances GILDEA. Of four children born to the first one, Charles Edward, died in infancy, Cornelius P. FREDERICK passed away ten months ago and Mrs. Anna DODGE, wife of Optician Dan DODGE, and William FREDERICK survive. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: P. J. FREDERICK, Frank FREDERICK and Adolph FREDERICK, Mrs. Amelia MILLER, wife of Chas. MILLER, of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Frederick BATEMAN, and Mrs. Mary HAFNER, wife of Jacob HAFNER, of this city, and Miss Barbara FREDERICK, at home.
Mr. FREDERICK was a devout Catholic and died fortified with the last sacraments of the church he loved so well. He was a faithful member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's church. An honest upright citizen, steady and industrious workman, devoted husband and father, kind neighbor and true friend, Mr. FREDEICK's memory will be forever cherished by those who knew him. The funeral will take place from St. Mary's church Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock.
