Her paternal grandparents were John Buckles and Frances Wallingford; her maternal grandparents were Josiah or Aaron Hart and Rachel. She had eight brothers and four sisters, named Alfred, Andrew, Iredell, James, Thomas, Martin, Ambrose, Swan, Lucinda, Emily, Rachael and Fanny. She was the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.-
