His paternal grandparents were Christopher Hart and Mary Beckley. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Joseph, Josiah and Mary. He was the third oldest of the five children. "...Thomas HART (1686 in Byberry, Philadelphia, Pa.) was a son of John and Susannah RUSH HART. He married Ester MILES in 1713 in Bucks County, Pa., and died in 1790 at Fairforest. Ester (1693), a daughter of Griffen and Bridget EDWARDS, died in 1748 or later.
Thomas and Ester's children were Silas (1715); Thomas, Jr. (1723 - 1804?), who married Mary MORGAN between 1741 and 1766; Miles H. (1729? - 1785 in Nelson County, Ky.), who married Delilah about 1750; Aaron; Heth (1745); and Samuel (1746)...."
