Hello Joyce!
I saw your rootsweb entries. Perhaps I can help with some information.
Josie Skaggs who married William R. Payton and one of their daughters, Sarah Ellen Payton who married Lawrence Brashear. The Sarah mentioned on Josephines death certificate was indeed her daughter.
Sarah E. Payton and Lawrence Brashear were my father's parents.
Lawrence was the son of F. N. Brashear (born Felix but his death certificate says his name is Phillip, there is a story there but I don't know why he didn't want to be named for his uncle Felix Watkins. He went by F.N. and Filip but the clerk entered his name as Phillip) Felix (Phillip) was the oldest child of Nancy Watkins and her husband Edwin (Ned) Brashear. Felix and his brothers (Theodore & Alonzo) and sister Francis were orphaned in 1848(?) because Francis was 2 yrs old in 1850 census and all of the children except Alonzo were living with Catherine Watkins (Nancy's 63 year old widowed mother) Five year old Alonzo (also known as O. in the census) was living with Catherine's other daughter Lyathy and her husband William Watkins.
Felix eventually married Paralee Brite Upton, the daughter of George Washington Upton who was the founder of Upton, KY.
I have quite a bit of the information on some of the family lines. Your info is helping me too because I don't have alot on Sarah and her family. She went by the name Sally. We suspect she had a form of Bi-Polar disorder but was never diagnosed as she died in the mid-1960's. Sarah is buried in the Upton Family cemetery on Big Springs Road on the Russell Shoat farm (used to belong to Lawrence and Sarah but was sold at auction by my aunt and uncle
after Sarah's death).
Do you have any more info on the family? Pictures?
Looking forward to e-mail from you,
Lynn Brashear (e-mail lynxgliff@hotmail.com)
