Jan (John) Roelofse was born on February 10th, 1670 in Flatlands, Long Island, New York, United States and his baptism took place on March 1st, 1670 in Flatlands, , NY. Jan (John) Roelofse's father was Roelof Martinse Schenck and his mother was Neeltje Gerretse Van Couwenhoven. His paternal grandparents were Martin SCHENCK and Maria Margareth BOCKHURST; his maternal grandparents were Garret Gerrit Wolferse Vankouenhoven and Aeltie COOL. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Marten Roelofse, Martin, Garret Roelofse, Annetje, Janetje (Jonica) Roelofse, Marike Roelofse, Marytje Roelofse and Jane Roelofse. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 82 on January 30th, 1753 in Pleasant Valley, 82-11-20, Monmouth, New Jersey.
