Etienne I was born about 1054 in Bourgogne, France.  Etienne I's father was Guillaume I "The Grand" and his mother was Etiennette Stephanie De Longwy.  His paternal grandparents were I Renaud and Alice (Adelaide) of Normandy; his maternal grandparents were III Adalbert and Clemence De Foix. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Guillaume II, Eudes, Clemence, Pope Calistus, Archbishop of Besancon, Ermentrude, Bertha, Raimund, Etiennette, Sybille Matilda and Gisela.  He died on May 27th, 1102 in Rama, Palestine.
