Maud was born in 1183 in Warwick, Warwickshire, England.  Maud's father was Geoffrey Fitz Piers IV Earl of Essex and her mother was Beatrice deSay.  Her paternal grandparents were Piers deLutegareshale and Maud deManDerville; her maternal grandparents were William deSaye and Aufrica deScotland. She had a sister named Mary.  She was the younger of the two children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Hawise.  She died at the age of 53 on August 27th, 1236.
