His paternal grandparents were Richard Swain and Elizabeth Basselle; his maternal grandparents were Nathaniel Weare and Sarah. He had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Joseph, Benjamin, Mary, Sarah, Patience, Elizabeth and Patience.-
