Thomas Merritt 1st 
Thomas was born on January 31st, 1680 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut. Thomas' father was Thomas II Merritt and his mother was Jane Sherwood. His paternal grandparents were Thomas I Merritt and Susanna Cranniwell; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Sherwood and Alice Seabrook. He had nine brothers and four sisters, named John, Ephhraim, Joseph, Isaac, Samuel, Steven, Edward, Mathew, Thomas III, Alice, Jane, Rose and Elizabeth. He was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 38 on January 30th, 1719 in Rye, Westchester Co., New York.-
