John Merritt 
John was born on October 10th, 1657 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut. John's father was Thomas II Merritt and his mother was Jane Sherwood. His paternal grandparents were Thomas I Merritt and Susanna Cranniwell; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Sherwood and Alice Seabrook. He had nine brothers and four sisters, named Ephhraim, Joseph, Isaac, Samuel, Steven, Edward, Thomas, Mathew, Thomas III, Alice, Jane, Rose and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 68 on April 10th, 1726 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut.-
