William I was born about 1049 in Brienze,Normandy,France.1   William I's father was Robert de Brus and his mother was Emma de Bretagne.  His paternal grandparents were Ragnvald (Rognvald) II Brusesson and Felicia Princess of Normandy; his maternal grandparents were Alain III Bretagne and Mathilde de Gand. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Adam, Allan, Adam, Robert, Robert, Philina, Hortolina, Amicia and Agatha.  He was the oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named Roger.  He died in 1087 in Bramber,Sussex,England.1
