Her paternal grandparents were William Bridges and Mary Tatum; her maternal grandparents were John Jacks and Jane Maxey. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Alvin Lafayette, John William, Susan Jane, Martha A., Frances S., Mariah Elizabeth, Cordelia and Clementine.
