Altie was born in November 1898. Altie's father was Andrew Keen and his/her mother was Margaret Meadows. His/her paternal grandparents were John Keen and Catherine Vance; his/her maternal grandparents were Frances Meadows and Clarissa Vance. He/she had a brother and two sisters, named Loran, Rebecca and Sarah. He/she was the youngest of the four children. He/she had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Henry Clay and Clara.
