Baldwin V was born in 1012. Baldwin V's father was Count Baldwin IV "Fair Beard" OF FLANDERS and his mother was Otgive DE LUXEMBOURG. His paternal grandparents were Arnold II The Young Count OF FLANDERS and Princess Rosele Susanna OF ITALY; his maternal grandparents were Count Frederick I OF LUXEMBURG and Countess Ermentrude VON GLEIBERG Irmtrud. He had two sisters named Ermengarde and Judith Fausta. He was the second oldest of the three children.General Notes
Credited with the first unification of the country, convertedthe Danes to Christianity, and conquered Norway. After hisBaptism his fathers pagan tomb was transformed into a Christianplace of worship.
Introduced Christianity into Denmark, he had the famous Jellingrune stone erected in his parent memory. He was fatally woundedduring a rebellion by his son and successor, Sveng I.
