Gilbert the Red De Clare III Earl of was born on September 2nd, 1243 in Christchurch, Hampshire, England.  Gilbert the Red De Clare III Earl of's father was Richard I De Clare Earl of Gloucester and his mother was Maud De Lacy Countess de Lincoln.  His maternal grandparents were John De Lacy Earl of Lincoln and Margaret De Quincy. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas De Clare Lord of, Bogo, Benedict, Isabel, Rohese and Eglentina.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295 in Mammouth Castle, Wales.
