Izella Ethel was born on August 18th, 1885 in Monroe County, Indiana. Izella Ethel's father was James Madison Shields and her mother was Mary Jane Heltonburg. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Shields and Sarah "Sally" Masterson; her maternal grandparents were Hiram Martin Heltonburg and Nancy Sowders. She had four brothers and six sisters, named Joseph Lenzy, Hiram Martin, Grover Cleveland, Paris Everett "Jack", Estella Martha, Mamie Alma, Infant, Maude Emiline, Rosezetta Frances and Nancy Pearl. She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. She had seven half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Louis W., George Washington, William C., John Thomas, James K. Polk, Isaac, David Jefferson, Sarah Elizabeth, Nancy Jane, Mary Alice and Delitha Belle. She died at the age of 34 on October 21st, 1919 in Holton, Jackson Co., Kansas. She was buried in Holton, Jackson Co., Kansas.-
