James Oliver was born on July 26th, 1920 in Smithville, Monroe Co., Indiana. James Oliver's father was William Lawrence Baugh and his mother was Zelma Shields. His paternal grandparents were James Baugh and Elizabeth Cutright; his maternal grandparents were David Jefferson Shields and Cordelia Sexton. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William Lawrence Jr., David Floyd, Sr, Sarah Evelyn and Wrytis Marie. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
