Oliver Benjamin was born on December 18th, 1883 in , Shelby, Illinois. Oliver Benjamin's father was Murdox Martin Phillips and his mother was Annie Mariah Sims. His maternal grandparents were John Jackson Or Jack Sims and Catharine Ann Knight. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Charles Edward, John Franklin, William Calvin, Perry, Lawrence Henry, Silas, Harry Crawford, Catherine Elvira, Alice May and Lula. He was the third youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 80 in 1963 in , , Of South Dakota.-
