John Dabney was born about 1786 in , , Virginia. John Dabney's father was Ignatius M. Sims and his mother was Sabrina Or Sabrah Hobart. His paternal grandparents were Francis Semmes and Lucretia Chapman; his maternal grandparents were Moses Hobart and Patience Bateman. He had a brother named William Robertson. He was the older of the two children. He had three half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Marmaduke Nance, Leo Dabney, Ignatius Andrew Jackson, Mary, Jancie, Anna, Eleanor, Margaret, Exoney, Margaret and Elizabeth. He died on October 23rd, 1842 in , Bourbon, Kentucky.General Notes

It is said that John Dabney was a child of the second wife. Howev er,
if he was born in 1786, as the records state, he would have been so n of Sabrah.
She was a signer of a Henry County deed dated 25 May 1787. The wil l of
Ignatius seems to make John too young. John is called one of the you ng
children. This indicating that he was of the second marriage. But , since John
married 11 Dec 1811, he had to have been at least 21.
