Cornelia was born in 1861 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Cornelia's father was Christopher Pearson and her mother was Eliza Jane. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Pearson and Mary Or Polly Cole. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Arthur M., Nathaniel G., Christopher J. B., Alice, Katherine, Mary C., Mary S. and Eliza S.. She was the third youngest of the nine children.-
