Nancy was born on March 22nd, 1804 in , Henry, Virginia. Nancy's father was Reuben Nance and her mother was Nancy Brown. Her paternal grandparents were William Nance and Ann Eppes. She had seven brothers and a sister, named Clement, Joseph, Stephen, Payton Skipper, Edmund, Lessonby, Reuben Saunders and Sarah. She was the second youngest of the nine children.-
