Avery was born about 1494 in Middleton, Warwickshire, England. Avery's father was John Greisbrooke and his mother was Isabel. His paternal grandfather was John De Gresbroke. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Robert, Hugh, Henry, Margaret and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died in 1575. He was buried in I Have A Copy Of His Will..-
