George Martin was born on January 30th, 1822 in , , GA. George Martin's father was Micajah Fort Champion and his mother was Elizabeth Martin. His paternal grandparents were William Champion and Mary Fort; his maternal grandparents were George Martin and Lavenia Geiger. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named William, John Fort, Andrew Fort, Elias Fort, Marion Eley, Micajah James, David Fort, Daniel Huff, Martha F., Lavenia, Rebecca and Sarah Frances. He was the third oldest of the thirteen children.-
