Joseph William was born on April 24th, 1889 in , Sullivan, Tennessee. Joseph William's father was Eldridge Otto Akard and his mother was Susan A. Knight. His maternal grandparents were Ephraim Goldsmith Knight and Mary Jane Norman. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Frank G. W., Claude Eldridge, Mary Catherine, Minnie and Sarah M.. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 82 on July 3rd, 1971 in , , Texas.-
