Mary was born in 1890 in West Derby, Lancashire, England.1 Mary 's father was John Elkington and her mother was Mary Hannah Lewis. Her paternal grandparents were William Elkington and Alice Hartley ; her maternal grandparents are William Lewis and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William, John, Hannah, Sarah, Emily, Elizabeth Alice, Elizabeth Alice and Alice. She was the second youngest of the nine children.-
