Maria was born on November 2nd, 1825 in Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts.1   Maria's father was William H. Newman and her mother was Mary Nichols. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, William, Mary and Lucy.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 72 on January 26th, 1898 in Port Chester, Westchester County, New York.1
