Joseph Dow

Joseph was born on January 1st, 1730. Joseph's father was Deacon Samuel Dow and his mother was Mary Page. His paternal grandparents were Deacon Samuel Dow and Abigail Hobbs; his maternal grandparents are Christopher Page and Abigail Tilton. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Samuel, Jonathan, Abigail, Mary, Hannah, Tabitha, Sarah and Comfort. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.

General Notes
- Joseph was town clerk for 35 years, succeeding his father and grandfather. Without being a politician, he was all his life in positions of town trust. A selectman in 1760 and 1775, signing the Association Test, on a committee to arrange money allowances to those who enlisted. IN 1797 the church property was divided between the Congregationalists and Presbyterians, and he was chairman of the committee to make the division. All Hampton Dow remained Congregational. He was a member of the Legislatures of 1782, 1787, 1788 and 1792
