Benjamin Dow

Benjamin's baptism took place on November 15th, 1759. Benjamin's father was John Dow and his mother is <Unknown>. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Dow and Mary. He had three brothers and a sister, named Nathaniel, Jonathan, John and Elizabeth. He had a half-brother named Benjamin. He died after 1840.

General Notes
- Benjamin was a pensioner in Walden, Vermont, dying after 1840. Records gave nothing of him after his military experience from Gilmanton, New Hampshire. The natural supposition is that he bought 160 acres in 1783 and came with his brother, Nathaniel. Jonathan Dow, born 1776, came to Walden, Vermont with his bride in 1797; his children (like those of Nathaniel) are known. William Gilman Dow, writing in 1887, gave his own grandfather as Samuel Dow, Walden farmer, captain of militia, married a Gilman daughter, who died in October of 1831, leaving an only child, Samuel. If this is right, Samuel Sr. must have been born before 1780. A Gilman Dow was elected deacon of the Walden church in 1805. He must date from Revolutionary time.
