Mary was born in 1777 in Wallasey, Cheshire, England.  Mary's father was Thomas Rogers and her mother was Alice Cathron.  Her paternal grandparents were John Rogers and Sarah A. She had two brothers and a sister, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Thomas, Alexander, Sarah and James.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
