Margaret was born in November 1776 in Campbeltown, Argyllshire and her baptism took place on November 21st, 1776.  Margaret's father was Neil MacMillan and her mother was Isabell McConochy. She had six sisters named Isabel, Ann, Jean, Charlotte, Ann and Katherine.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
