Katri was born in April 1865 in Arula, Laane.  Katri's father was Jaan Volmer and her mother was Mall Volmer (Rekand).  Her paternal grandmother was Anu Volmer. She had a brother and five sisters, named Hans, Liis, Lilli, Anna, Miili and Juuli.  She was the oldest of the seven children. She had two half-sisters named Salme and Rosalie.  She died at the age of 69 in 1934.
