Jaan was born in 1832.  Jaan's father is Jaan Susi and his mother is Eva Susi.  His paternal grandparents were Evert and Liis; his maternal grandfather was Peeter Volmer and his maternal grandmother is Tiiu Volmer. He had four sisters named Marie, Anu, Katri and Liis.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 51 in 1883.
